EU Leaders Dinner on May 23

The European Union leaders are gathering for an informal dinner on May 23rd in Brussels in order to discuss the opportunities to boost economic growth and jobs creation across the EU. The purpose of the summit, as European Council President Herman Van Rompuy explained in his letter to the leaders, is not specific decisions to be taken but to lay the grounds for the June European Council to draw the future actions, which will also be based on proposals, which the European Commission will propose on May 30. This dinner will be the first participation of the new French president, Francois Hollande, on European stage. As usual, euinside will follow live the summit as in our Free Talk Corner, so with in depth articles. You can follow us also on Facebook and Twitter.

"Tonight's meeting was about putting pressure, focusing minds and clearing the air." This summary by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy suggests the feeling that the European leaders rather attended a yoga course than a working dinner. The scarce and fragmentary information about the o ...

23 May 2012 13:54 The Last Supper

The EU leaders are gathering tonight in Brussels for a dinner, during which they have to find a way to synchronise their views about a common European approach in boosting economic growth. The context, in which the dinner will take place, is very stressful: governments are falling; populist poli ...

17 May 2012 11:08 What Lies Behind the Growth Discussion in the EU

It is finally clear what does the talking about economic growth measures in the EU mean, which started to gain momentum yet in January, around the negotiations of the fiscal compact, with the first informal European Council, dedicated entirely on this topic. Then during the spring EU summit, whe ...

Today is a #Eurogroup day with two hot issues on the agenda. The first is #Greece's exit from the bailout programme. The other will take place in an expanded EU-format as it deals with the completion of the banking union and the reform of the #ESM. Although not on the agenda officially, another hot issue is the new government in Italy. Yesterday, President Sergio Mattarella gave Giuseppe Conte a mandate to form a coalition government between the populist M5S and the eurosceptic Lega. Stay tuned for live updates
