Judicial maze surrounding the UDF

Published: May 04, 2009 13:37, Adelina Marini, Sofia

Plamen Yurukov and Plamen Radonov have been expelled from the UDF today after the National council of the party voted to support the decision. This act though puts forward some serious questions:

1. Is the request for registration at the Central electoral committee for the European elections on the 7th of June legitimate since Plamen Radonov, who filed it, is no longer a member of the UDF?

2. Is the decision of the National council legitimate since the Sofia city court has now yet ruled on the legitimacy of the new leadership that called the meeting of the Council?

On the first question the spokeswoman of the Central electoral committee for the European Elections Ralitsa Negentsova told euinside, without any wish to elaborate, that the new leadership of the UDF would be legitimate only after the Sofia city court rules out it is. Until then the legitimate secretary general Plamen Radonov has filed a legitimate request for registration. At the moment the Central electoral Committee is validating the signatures, Radonov presented, as required by the law.
