#EUCO In Malta today begins an informal EU summit, the main topic of which will be the migration crisis. During the meeting the leaders of the member states will also discuss the next steps (after Bratislava) of the European integration. As the leaders started arriving, however, the main question was about the behaviour of the new US presidential administration
3 February 2017 10:02
Adelina Marini #EUCO Jean-Claude Juncker: No, I don't feel threatened (by the new administration) but I do think there is room for explanations, because sometimes I have the impression that the new administration doesn't know the EU in detail, but in Europe details matter
3 February 2017 10:05
Adelina Marini #EUCO Juri Ratas (#Estonia): Today we have 2 main topics - migration and the European future. We need united, strong and working EU and I'm sure that we have this union today
3 February 2017 10:10
Adelina Marini #EUCO Xavier Bettel (#Luxembourg): I'm also not supporting what happened in the US the last days and weeks, but I'm waiting for the report of some colleagues who spoke and met also President Trump in the last days. (on migration) And I hope that we won't speak again about the flexible solidarity but solidarity which is reciprocity. This is very important for me
3 February 2017 10:16
Adelina Marini #EUCO Bettel: What happened the last days (in the US) are really not the values I'm fighting in politics for
3 February 2017 10:19
Adelina Marini #EUCO Federica Mogherini: I think that today we will have a big responsibility as Europeans. First of all, to show unity and strength in a moment when the world and the Europeans need a strong EU, sticking to our values, being true to ourselves and becoming a strong point of reference for our partners around the world on multilateralism, on peace and security, on free and fair trade, on peace in our region and on a cooperative approach in the world
3 February 2017 10:27
Adelina Marini #EUCO #Mogherini: On migration I think that we can today show the difference. The European approach is an approach of partnership
3 February 2017 10:31
Adelina Marini #EUCO Mogherini: We are and will remain friends with the Americans, with the American people, with the American administration on the basis of our strong values, principles, interests. We have clear priorities. And I'm sure we will have very pragmatic conversations on where we can work together to achieve common results or where we might differ. Differing in positions is something normal among friends. For sure, the European differ when it comes to a certain approach, for instance on migration. We do not believe in walls and bans. This is the European way. The American way might become different today. This is not a European problem. This might be an American problem but we're seeking for friendship and cooperation as always with our American friends
3 February 2017 10:40
Adelina Marini #EUCO Klaus Iohannis (#Romania): I have to admit even if it is very hard for me that the situation in Romania is very complicated, but we have hundreds of thousands of my Romanians out in the streets and I trust them. I trust my people. I believe in Romania. In the end I'm convinced we will, we have to find a good solution. The rule of law has to prevail, the European values have to prevail and this is what I believe will happen
3 February 2017 10:51
Adelina Marini #EUCO Andrej Plenkovic (#Croatia): In this moment we have to find a new cohesive narrative to show that Europe is united and can deal with the new global context

#EUCO This afternoon, in Brussels, will begin the last EU summit this year. It will be the first that will work on Donald Tusk's Leaders' Agenda (details in the link below). In his agenda two topics are planned for the December European Council - migration and the future of the EMU. Both have already created strong tensions between Tusk and the Commission after the European Council president came up with documents of his own, which are much more reduced than those of the Commission, and reactions in the building across the street were furious. The leaders will mark the launch by 25 member states of PESCO at a special ceremony today. Leaders will be joined by NATO secretary general to discuss EU-NATO cooperation. Leaders are also expected to extend sanctions against Russia after hearing a report by Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron on the implementation of the Minsk agreements. Progress on the Brexit negotiations will be discussed on Friday. This is one of the toxic issues on the agenda. On Friday will take place also the expanded euro area summit, which is open for non-euro countries as well. Stay tuned for details and live updates throughout the day and tomorrow! euinsi.de/0Dcy
