Adelina Marini
Today is the culmination of the World Economic Forum #WEF in #Davos because of the numerous, various and very interesting discussions. We will start yet from 9 o'clock CET with a debate, dedicated to fixing capitalism, in which will take part Anders Borg, minister of finance of Sweden, Angel Gurria, secretary general of the OECD, Lael Brainard, US Undersecretary of the Treasury for International Affairs. At noon another interesting discussion will start with the participation of Timothy Geithner, US Treasurt Secretary on the topic: "Outlook and Challenges for the US Economy". In the afternoon session there will be a debate about the economic perspectives of Europe with Mario Draghi, ECB's chief. Here, in the Free Talk Corner of this website you can follow a live coverage of these discussions.

Adelina Marini #davos Angel Gurria, the secretary general of OECD, started first the debate on fixing capitalism by saying that he preferred to talk about market economy rather than capitalism. In the hall there were 2-3 people who raised hands on the question of Nik Gowing from the BBC, moderator of the debate, whether capitalism was flawless. In the discussion also takes part Nouriel Roubini.

Adelina Marini #BBCdavos It is no surprise that Lael Brainard, US Treasury Secretary, in every statement of hers is talking about China.
27 January 2012 09:16
Adelina Marini There is an inherent tendency in capitalism in times of economic boom, Ms Brainard said in #BBCdavos are we repeating the mistakes
27 January 2012 09:19
Adelina Marini #davos #WEF Again is being talked about moral and capitalism and that profit should be the motivating power but not at any cost. The question still unanswered though is who is to say how much profit fits to whose moral values?

Adelina Marini #davos #WEF Education is a very important degree, says Anders Borg, Sweden's finance minister, while boasting with his country's economic achievements.
27 January 2012 09:29
Adelina Marini #davos #WEF To my question who is to say how much profit should be in order to fit moral values, Angel Gurria, OECD's secretary general responded like this: competition, competition, innovation, innovation until profit goes down to its natural levels.
27 January 2012 09:35
Adelina Marini #davos #WEF A very interesting question about whether spring is coming in Europe, where a thick shadow is looming up for politicians. Anders Borg said that voters are grown up and understand what's at stake. Angel Gurria on his part said that the problem still is that the big bazooka is not there yet.
27 January 2012 09:48
Adelina Marini #davos #WEF It's getting even more inetresting - China and the state capitalism
27 January 2012 09:52
Adelina Marini #davos #WEF A very wise Chinese response - we are still students (in terms of capitalism) and we are reading Adam Smith, said a Chinese stakeholder.
27 January 2012 09:56
Adelina Marini #davos #WEF In the end, what to be done: Lael Brainard - until now we've had a system that tended toward large imbalances. What is needed is a balance and a fair distribution of the gains (quite in the spirit of Barack Obama's rhetoric); Nouriel Roubini - what is needed is the right balance between what the states provide and the private sector; Angel Gurria in his typical style - balance and sequence, and politics, politics, politics.

Adelina Marini #FAC #Mogherini on #QMV: We never never in these almost 4 years had a problem with unanimity. I don't exclude in the future this to become a problem but now even on defence we decide with unanimity, even with UK still in. What I can indicate as a problem is the problem of inconsistency. On other issues, yes, indeed
